On October 18, 1848, the crew of the schooner Richard out of Truro set a historic record in just 24 hours, the 12 men and 2 boys caught 175 barrels of mackerel using only line and hook. A record that still remains to this day, a feat that remains s legendary part of Cape Cod's fishing lore.
